Concept artwork for courtyard of Mušov Roman military hospital which happens to be the largest known buildings from the prehistoric era on territory of what is now Czech republic.Not surprisingly its also first known hospital at this territory.Building consisted of 76 rooms,most of it for pacients.Each was designed for 4-8 pacients and in total up to 600 people could be housed there at one moment.Some rooms were certainly intended for operating theaters and as spaces for medical and service staff.
There are only 10 Roman military hospitals known from across the former territory of Roman Empire but this one is the only one build behind Roman frontier.It was part of major base of operation for the Roman army located in south Moravia(region of Czech republic) during final decade of Marcommanic wars.It might be that these headquarters were intended as a core for future Capital city of new province of Marcomannia which was possibly planned by Emperor Marcus Aurelius which is suggested by several finds not characteristic for typical Roman army permanent forts but rather for cities.
